Last night I went to the HOB (that’s House of Blues) in Orlando to see Cyndi Lauper and Jill Sobule in Concert. It was pretty good. The HOB as a venue can suck if you don’t get a decent place to be. If you’re short like me, you’ll quickly find that standing in a crowd is a quick way to be pushed around and not get to see much. It happens that we found some barstools and enjoyed the concert from the sidelines.
So I was pretty impressed with Ms. Sobule. She sang songs from her new album (not that new) and some of her older hits as well. She was great with improving and talking to the audience as well. Her time on stage was much too short, but I really went to see her rather than Cyndi Lauper, albeit Lauper put on a great show as well.
Sobule signed an autograph for me on a CD cover, and was pleasant although when I was there at the little shirt/cd stand she was a bit too overwhelmed to be too personable. I can only imagine the energy and adrenniline rush she must have felt, since she said she hadn’t performed in front of a large audience such as that for some time.
One last thing, why can’t people shut the F up during the actual concert performance? It just seems that there are some rude people who want to ruin things for everyone. If you go to a concert, get off the cell phone, and stop chatting it up with your friends, and enjoy what you and everyone else came for.
