I wonder who is priveed to what the executive branch of government is doing, since the legislative branch has been effectively shutout of executing this war on terror. The people of this great nation sign the paychecks of the people who are carrying out this war, but there needs to be some oversight. Oversight by our legislative branch, the Congress!

Since they fail to do their job, our last line of oversight seems to be The Press. That same press that has been accused of rolling over and not doing their jobs for the last 5 or so years.

The New York Times’s masthead logo, “All The News That’s Fit to Print,” dates back to 1896, the first year of Ochs-Sulzberger family control of the paper, and both the family control and arrogant belief in the benevolence and superior judgment of the dominant owners persist to this day. The 1997 Proxy Statement of The New York Times Company explains the special voting rights that assure family control in terms of the desire for “an independent newspaper, entirely fearless, free of ulterior influence and tinselfishly devoted to the public welfare.”

So if investigative journalists are told that everything that they do is being held for national security and the war on terrorism, then we run into the potential of a quasi-censorship situation. While papers, such as the NY Times has used candor to ensure that they don’t quickly jump to publish stories without considering National Security, because they are not the government, they have different standards and rules when it comes to publishing material to the public, and that public can be more than just US Citizens.

Can we rely on the Press to be the eyes and ears of the people when our Congress has failed us? What will the people who are relying on its government to keep us safe do? Who is watching the watchers? Maybe there is more news that’s fit to print.

When people think of some of the most evil people in the world Hitler tops the list, he’s way beyond Saddam Hussein and all these others, why? Because he was after world domination, and did everything in his power to try and get it, not to mention the killing of over 6 million Jews, 6 million Russians, and millions of other people.

So now Al Gore, former VP of the US puts out a movie that says, here is the science, and I believe that we need to fix this problem with the environment.

What’s a normal response from an opposition? Ah yes, here’s my conclusions based on this science, and it is totally different. But no, that’s not what we’ve got, instead, we have people who revert to evoking the name of Hitler, when they use Gore’s name.

Honestly I’ve never heard of Bill Gray, I suppose he’s looking for his 15 minutes, and figures he’ll do his worst to get it. But based upon what I read, he’s unprofessional; owes Al Gore a public apology, and owes the Meterologist community his resignation.

Understand, this is hardly a defense of Al Gore but rather it is about choosing your words when you want to make outrageous remarks. Call ‘em crazy, call ‘em emotional, but refer to him as an evil dictator whose aim is to exterminate and dominate?

Besides, I don’t trust meterologists all that much, let’s face it, what other job do you get to keep even when you’re wrong, and no one really gets on you much if you are wrong.

Do you believe in Ghosts? Maybe satan, or the One-Creator?  How about UFOs and aliens?  Maybe you believe that the government is tapping your phone, and controlling your mind.  “There’s a lightpost ahead, the next stop… the twilight zone.”

 What is it that makes us want to believe things that really don’t make sense to believe?  Thank goodness for websites like SNOPES and the mythbusters for putting those urban legends to task.  We want to believe in things.  Some things that we believe in, makes our lives easier by having faith, such as religion, yet, why do we take some many other things on face value?  We believe whatever we’re told by our government, our authoritarians, and our media outlets.

Where is the skepticism?

I see that there is no shortage of skepticism when it comes to these things:

I believe that a good amount of skepticism is important, it ensures debate, and accuracy; but when we fail to acknowledge real science and rely on psuedo-science, we fail our own conscious and ensure that we will never know the truth.  I am convinced that when your belief system supercedes your ability to understand science, then you can neither be a true skeptic or conspiracy believer.
