1st Amendment watchdogs and other well intentioned protectors of the Constitution be wary of defending this whole WikiLeaks thing. I know what you’re thinking, First they came for proletarians, but I was not a proletarian, so I didn’t do anything… This is not about the same principles that you think your standing for.

Are you willing to sell out your own government to stand up for freedom of speech? Is it really that black and white? Going back to your high school civics class, you might remember that it still is illegal to yell fire in a crowded theater. It is recognized that there are limits to that freedom of expression.

Seriously, what whistle was blown by leading out US classified information? Did this uncover some diabolical plot or criminal activity?

Quite honestly NO!

The purpose was to embarrass the US Government, create rifts between nations, and make the level of trust between US State Department and other foreign nations strained. And at worse, many of the diplomatic corps could be in harms way.

There are valid reasons for whistleblowers to have a forum like a WikiLeak, but publishing government classified Cables isn’t one of them. It doesn’t move forward the debate on anything. It doesn’t free the enslaved, it doesn’t reduce censorship, it doesn’t make the world a better place for it.

There seems to be a pervasive thought that everything should be open and made public, but we all know that isn’t true. There are somethings that need and should be left private and this is one of those things.

Show me the trail that publishing these documents will forward progress, you won’t succeed.

I firmly believe in the 1st Amendment, and this is not freedom of the press. This is the work of traitors.

I sit at the water’s edge, and I wonder what I should be thinking. I walk the shore and look out and see the boats and the sky and the water. It’s calming to some degree, feeling the breeze on your face, and warmth of the sun beating down.

I’m thinking about a lot of things, what the future brings. I’m not certain any more what lies in that road ahead and in a lot of ways, i’m pretty happy with that.

Sometimes you don’t want stability. Sometimes you want the unknown. Sometimes you want the ability to change, you want to be able to change course whenever the moment, the whim strikes you.

I’m taking a deep breath, I’m not sure what will happen next.

I wrote this a while ago when the Iran stuff was going on, and I can see with hindsight that green avatars were a flash in the pan.
———————Are you Green for Iran? Well, I’m with you in spirit, but I’m not changing my avatar. And why not may you ask? First off, symbols like this lose their meaning or even worse don’t really have meaning when you think about it. What does it really mean that you are changing your color to green or you believe that the elections in Iran were totally fraudulent?

Hey, There was fraud in Iran, better change my avatar to green! That’ll show ‘em.

Do you really think that the Mullahs and other religious spiritual leaders in Iran give a fuck about Twitter or whatever social network you are on, and the color of your avatar? You don’t live there, you’re not volunteering to take up arms against this “fraudulent” government, you’re not willing to do anything but send a condolence card by way of a watermarked ICON.

Sorry but I call BULLSHIT!

Do you want change in Iran? First off why? Are you convinced that a regime change might change their Nuclear Weapons development program to a screeching halt? Do you think that this country is a true democracy that is being denied majority rule? What is your angle?

Point me to a website with your view, because I don’t really know what YOU stand for.

How long will you be green? Until the next folly comes to Twitter perhaps? You know where we need to change Healthcare, Climate Change, Gay Rights in the US, better health care for our wounded vets?

OK, turning green brings awareness, but it’s like carrying coal to Newcastle. (you can look that analogy up). The Twitter audience is keenly aware of many things, and they are the people that need to used for a call to action rather than call for awareness.

Do you want to have a call to action, then what will you do?

Write letters to world leaders that could influence the Muslim world particularly in Iran.

Tell Oil companies not to buy their oil from Iran until they sponsor free elections.

????? Anything else?

Where is the OUTRAGE? Where are the PROTESTS?

Some have put Yellow Ribbon magnets in support of the troops on their car, but don’t really give a fuck, but it feels good; So you change your avatar and don’t think about it ever again.

I’m a fan of both Apple and Google, so to see them fight it out on the same playing field is like being forced to wear one of those double billed hats to a football game. But looking at the direction of travel of these two companies it really appears that it will be Microsoft left in the dust when it comes to the consumer.

There are two dominate platforms emerging in the Smart Phone market, the iPhone (Apple) and Android based (Google). But unlike the Palm and RIM based machines, these two companies have an ecosystem that stands behind their product. Let me talk to Apple and Google separately and you’ll quickly see what I mean.

Apple

Integration using iTunes

Available on both Mac and Windows based PCs.

Runs Mobile Safari based on WebKit.

Has a total developer program to bring applications to the device based upon Mac OS X.

iPhone operating system based on Mac OS X.

Google

Integration using existing Google Services (Gmail, Google Voice, Documents, etc.)

Available on any platform.

Runs Google Chrome Browser based on WebKit.

Has an SDK program to bring applications to the device.

Android OS is unique to the hand held device based on the Linux kernel.

So what is the game plan going forward? Google believes that Chrome is the future of the desktop. (That) We will get rid of lots of overhead and push the on button and be online. Apple on the other hand may have developers that can develop for one and develop for all by keeping some consistency between the way you develop for both the Mac OS and Mobile Mac OS. 90,000 applications is a lot of applications and if that translates to developers for the Mac, it can only be a good thing for Apple.

Because Google mostly sees the Application relying on the browser and on the Internet, that would lend one to believe that people who make web based Apps will have the most success, since they should run smooth on both an iPhone and an Android phone.

I’ve heard it said that business is about making money and yet it is also about getting your products in the hands of users. It’s still too early to tell who is the David and who is the Goliath, but as we see more of Apple’s business plans come together towards the end of January, we can all be sure that the fun is just beginning.

Like what I write? Follow Me on Twitter: @SailorJ and tell me what you think!

“The name’s McCoy, Leonard H.” One of countless memorable lines that were culled directly out of the Star Trek: Original Series, dialect and all. What a great job these guys did portraying people who are real heros to many people. They influenced generations of science, space and military. We have been so engaged to this crew, it would be difficult for anyone to do it justice in a remake.

While Special Effects, Casting, and general feel all seemed pretty good. This story has really left me pissed off.

Most of us hardcore Trek folk look at the logic of things, and when an event happens in the story, we look at it in the perspective of the entire program and from a scientific theoretical possibility/stand point.

Here’s what Pissed me off!

The Romulans and Spock pass through a blackhole. (This isn’t Disney’s BlackHole) We know what happens with a blackhole, it’s a high gravitational area, not a rip in the space-time continuum.

optical communicationSpock comes back with a machine designed to destroy planets. (enough red matter to destroy hundreds of worlds)

The Romulan’s destroy Kirks dad, altering the SpaceTime Continuum, and Old Spock still gets comesback with not altering of the Space Time Continuum.

Kirk isn’t sent to the Brig but rather ejected off to a distant planet.

Kirk meets the old Spock, and this doesn’t change the space time continuum.

Spock meets himself.

WTF that Kirk becomes Captain of the enterprise as a Cadet.

If any of these things that break time were to happen then most likely, these poeple may not have become friends the same way.

The next movie better fix this. I mean, what would Q have to play with, unless Captain Picard is still out there in space.

This was much more akin to an episode of Sliders than an episode of Star Trek. Even in episodes where they travel in time, then never screw with the space time continuum and make out as if the known timeline no longer exists. It changes way too much of the future that is yet to be written.

NASA screwed up! In a day and age where budgets sway on public opinion, the Colbert Army is a good one to have on your side. These aren’t just your morning drive guys, these are polically motivated 20+ year olds. These are people who actually can make an impact and influence policy.

Now while it looks as if there was no animosity between the two camps, it still proves that Colbert is a force to be reckoned with.

Remember what happened when Colbert wanted to make a point about wikipedia? Where he got people to change information on Elephants. It was big news. In any event, I fail to see a reason why it would not be called the Colbert module. In 10 years from now, are they afraid they would be saying, who is Stephen colbert? Well if he puts the energy and resources onto being their cheerleader then that would not likely happen.
